Summer is here and with it the time to enjoy your terrace and garden. For a few months, this space becomes the important center of your home: a cozy dinner with special people, a quick snack on the terrace, a shady spot to read... You would like to renew your terrace or garden and you would like to know how is possible?
That is why we are here! At the HoffmannWehr Architectural Office in Jávea on the Costa Blanca, we will be happy to help you and give you the best advice so that you can have a new garden in a short time. So, keep these tips in mind and renew the image of your garden to get the most out of it.
1. Go for color
It is possible that the dominant color of your terrace today is white. Why not go for a fresh color like green, yellow or orange? A color that make you happy and let you to enjoy the nice weather. Or how about giving a wall a new look with a new material?
A simple wall color or a new material can be a step to bring a completely fresh and new touch to the garden of your family home.
2. Fill your terrace with life
No plants on your patio? That cannot be! Investigate the types of plants that adapt best to the climate in your location, that get sun exposure, and that (if you don't have a lot of time) don't require excessive maintenance. And if you don't want real plants, you can always opt for artificial plants. Here maintenance is reduced to a minimum.
3. Define a style
There are many types of gardens, from classic to vintage, Chinese gardens... Find a theme and style that you like and that you identify with.
For example, if you like boho-chic decoration, you can place white armchairs with subtle cushions and add small decorative objects in white colors or with a color accent.
4. Choose your matching accessories
A good garden must have the accessories that give it the life and functionality it needs. For example, choose cushions for your sofas in harmony with the rest of the decoration, put down a small blanket for the nights when it gets cooler, discreetly place mosquito repellent or place decorative elements such as fountains, etc. There are hundreds of possibilities!
5. Get good lighting
As interior designers, we know that lighting is a very important aspect when decorating and renovating a garden; as well as in any project for conversions of single-family houses or apartments.
At present, the use of solar lights inviting to festive occasions is a very attractive addition. But usually, this type of accessory will not be enough to brighten up your nights.
You need indirect light to be comfortable in the evening and still enjoy the darkness. Modern outdoor lamps that work without being connected to the mains can be a good option for this.
6. Watch out for mosquitos
If you want to renew your garden, you must first make sure that no pests could harm your plans. If your guests come back home with dozens of stitches every time they go home, you won't be a good host. Therefore, choose a system that will keep flies, mosquitoes and other insects out of the room.
7. Change the furniture
Something as simple as renovating old sofas or tables in your garden can make a world of difference. Currently there are all kinds of materials for this type of furniture: from PVC to more modern materials such as bamboo or metal.
The important thing is that if you choose a material like wood, you should be aware that from time to time you need to take care of it with special varnishes so that it does not get damaged too early.
If your garden is large, you can also add benches in different places to further harmonize the environment and enjoy all areas of your garden.
8th. Lay a path
Do you want a real 180º turn in your garden? Then you can opt for a simple modification, but one that gives it a lot of charm: a path.
You can place this from the beginning of the garden to where there is e.g. the central table or a special element or plant. This is how you cross the garden and create new perspectives. The possibilities are almost limitless.
As for the shapes, you can opt for paths with round stones, with tiles, with shaped drawings, with relief, smooth, coloured, in wood... A whole world of possibilities!
There's no place we want more than a garden right now - with a few simple tweaks it gets a whole new look.
